Delilah (2008-04-03) #2008-021
Sable and White Smooth Female
3 years

Available

Delilah is a sable and white smooth collie. She has lived with other dogs but does not enjoy the company of cats. She is a well behaved young lady who is about 2 to 3 yrs old. We have been told she will chew on inappropriate things if left unattended – her favorite being direct TV remote controls. She should always have a nyla bone or a kong to help her with the need to chew. She knows the following commands sit, down, give paw, and leave it. She does not tend to be much of a barker and when told quite she will stop barking.

Dylan (2008-02-13) #2008-010
Tricolor Rough Male
18 months

Available

Dylan is an 18 month old tri male rough collie. He came into us from an animal control after they found him in an abandoned apartment buildings basement. He was thin, and his coat was a mess full of burrs. Upon arrival at the vet it was discovered he is heartworm positive and will need to go through treatment. He is currently in foster for his treatment which will be take about 4 months.

Update from Dylan's foster home: 3-26-08

While Dylan is doing well in his heartworm treatment, he remains extremely fearful of everything. He does seem to feel comfortable when with his canine friends but is frightened of humans and can't seem to relax when in the presence of a human. It is going to take a huge amount of time and patience to get Dylan to trust humans again. He is frightened by the everyday sounds that go on in a home the TV, dishwasher, etc. He will find a dark corner to hide in and has to be physically removed from that corner or he will just stay there hiding and hoping no one can see him.

Jodi (2008-05-02) #2008-031
Tri-factored Sable and White Rough Female
9 years

Available

Jodie is a 9 yr old rough coated collie who has found herself homeless. Her family has had a lifestyle change that did not include Jodi. She has adjusted well in her foster home; she gets along great with the male and female dog in the foster home. She likes to go for walks and loves just hanging out in the back yard. She is a good house dog who has nice house manners and is very well behaved. She would easily adapt to any home and has lived with older children and shouldn't be a problem with a cat in the home. If you are looking for a dog to come in to your home and just make herself at home with no problems Jodi is your girl.

KC (2005-02-05) #2005-008
Sable-headed White Rough Male
4 1/2 years

Available

This is KC's second time around in Collie Rescue of Greater IL, he was returned to us because his owners had a change in their living situation and had to move to a home that was unsuitable for KC. KC is a 4-1/2 year old beautiful sable headed white rough collie that is blind in one eye, but that doesn't hold KC back! He loves car rides, kids, walks, and his favorite is playing fetch with his frog toy. He does get nervous in thunderstorms, and does not like loud trucks or motorcycles. He is a wonderful family pet and has nice house manners. He would like a fenced yard to play in. KC knows several commands, sit, lay down, and give paw to name a few. He is a smart boy waiting for a family to love him.

KC's original bio follows.

My name is KC and I'm originally from southern Illinois. I was transferred to CRI because of a detached retina in my left eye and the lady in southern Illinois wanted to be sure that I received proper care and treatment for both of my eyes. I was found as a stray on the streets of Eldorado (Illinois - not out west somewhere) and I've discovered that humans can be really, really nice. A really nice lady in Eldorado took me into her home and to the doctor (where I was "neutered", had my teeth cleaned and received some pinchy shots) and fed me so that I could gain weight. When she found me, I weighed 36 lbs. and I'm a fairly big boy who was scavenging to find what I could to keep going. She showed me what a real home is like - warm, loving, full of other critters, treats and my own blanket. But then I went on a long trip moving from one car to another driven by a lot of caring people who, thankfully, took me to my new foster home for CRI.

Although I can't see out of my left eye, I don't spook or get upset if someone comes up on that side of me. I guess I've had the problem so long, I've gotten used to it. I've learned to go and up down stairs - not a lot of them - and have a little difficulty with depth perception (I heard my foster mom use that term - impressive, isn't it?). What I'm really excited about is that I am learning to play, I mean REALLY PLAY! There are four dogs and two cats who live in this foster home. The smallest one is teaching me how to play with toys and he and another one of the dogs are teaching me how much fun it is to run in the yard. I'm having such a good time. Sometimes I get so excited when I come in and want to thank my foster mom, I forget myself and start, what she calls, puppy mouthing her hands and when I go to kiss her, I forget myself and sometimes nip. I don't want to hurt her - I just want to let her know how happy I am. I don't remember having so much fun and didn't know that dogs were supposed to be this happy.

My foster mom is teaching me some "basic commands" like sit, down, stay. Off is the big one I'm learning and she says I need to learn something called "settle". Hmmm. I did have some food aggression problems probably because I was so used to finding food for myself, but I'm learning that I don't have to worry about food any more and that good things can come from humans. I had some "words" with a couple of the other dogs when I first arrived up here, but I'm trying to learn and to be really good. I'm beginning to understand the meal-time ritual of dancing around the table with the other dogs and getting my own bowl of food. I want to learn as much as I can because I think I'm really a smart guy (besides being irrisistably handsome) and want to find my own forever home with a family or person that I can take care of and who will love me for the wonderful guy I am. I'm really gentle when I jump up and am learning to "sit pretty" on my back end. I'm starting to get the idea of "shake" or "give paw", but I need more work on that one and I walk nicely on a leash and am learning to mind my manners. I have a lot of energy (now that I know I'm supposed to have fun) so a home with some older children and maybe another dog for me to play with would be perfect. I especially love little dogs but will be happy with any one I can play with. I'm a young, handsome, very playful, tail wagging, as I said - irrisistable, funny, lovable and loving guy who is looking for a forever home where I can spend the rest of my life, grow old, wise and be happier than I could ever have imagined. I have an appointment with an eye specialist on March 8 and will be available to pack my bags after that date. But if you think you might have a place in your heart and home and would like to meet me and find out more about me, please, please, please email CRI.

Maximillian (2008-04-17) #2008-025
Sable and White Rough Male
7 years

Available

Maximillian is a sable and white 7 yr old male. He is getting along nicely with the two female dogs in his foster home. We do not know a lot about his previous life as he was turned into a shelter by his owner due to allergies in the family. He does need some work on his housebreaking so he may not have spent a lot of time in the house.

Patch (2008-04-27) #2008-028
White-factored Sable and White Rough Male
2 years

Available

Patch is a white factored sable with beautiful markings. We believe he is about 2 years old. Patch has always lived outside in a pen and is just getting used to the good life and learning to be a house dog and a pet. He is friendly and a sweet boy once he gets to know you and knows he can trust you. We believe Patch was born blind and he is good at fooling you that he can see (he may be able to see some shadows and light) -- it took us a few days to figure out that he wasn't seeing very well. Collie Rescue of Greater IL has adopted many blind collies who have gone on to live full lives in their homes. It would be best for him to be placed with another collie who can act as his eyes. Patch should be placed in a home with a fence for his protection. If you would like to research life with a blind dog check out this website: http://www.blinddogs.com/.

Prince (2008-04-27) #2008-029
Sable-headed White Rough Male
2 years

Available

Prince is a 2 year old sable headed white rough coated collie. Prince had to have his coat shaved off because he had not been taken care of properly. Prince has spent his life in a "breeding" kennel or puppy farm. He is under socialized and is very fearful. He will have a long journey to becoming a pet. He has just entered his foster home and so much is new to him, all the household sounds, traffic, and the human touch is frightening to him. He needs to learn to trust humans; he was good for the groomer - with her gentle touch he warmed up to her after his long grooming session. He felt so good he acted like a puppy when he got home after having that horrible filthly matted coat removed. Prince will need to attend a puppy class even though he is not a puppy but with Prince it will be like starting from scratch going back to the basics to teach him house manners and how to walk on a leash. He will need an owner with patience and an open heart to his fears.

Marcy (0000-00-00) #2008-X01
Sable and White Rough Female
12 weeks

Adoption pending

Marcy is a sweet, georgeous sable/white collie puppy born January 21, 2008. Marcy was born with no eyes so her eyelids are closed. Marcy was taken to one of the top ophthamologists and she also had an ultrasound done that confirmed that there were no eyes in the socket. Marcy has severe micro opthalmia. This does not mean that Marcy cannot see you. A blind puppy's other senses will over compensate for their loss. In the past we have seen many dogs, not just collies, without eyes and they function very well in their own environment. Also, after extensive training and pure love, they will walk with you anyplace on leash because they trust you. Yes, Marcy will need a fenced in yard to keep her safe.

Also, highly recommended would be either another collie or a herding breed to assist Marcy in growing up as normal as possible. This companion would be her eyes and teach her how to play and run. She will also be able to play with her humans given patience in teaching her to "see you". She can still hear and feel.

Please open your hearts to such a special, loving little girl.

Collie Rescue of Greater Illinois, Inc. is posting this special girl to assist in finding the right home for Marcy.

Please contact John Katchka, Plainfield, IL, 815-609-6052 or e-mail him at katchkaj@comcast.net to get more information and screening to visit with Marcy. Please contact John only if you are serious to adopt and commit to this loving puppy. Marcy needs a special home that has alot of love and patience and maybe a big brother to hold her paw.
