Gage

Sable and White Rough Male

9 years

Available

When Gage came to meet the volunteer who transported him to Collie Rescue, this sweet boy was a happy smile, dancing feet and wagging tail, ready for a new adventure and so glad to meet new people! What made this all the more touching was that Gage was absolutely filthy, thin, and had a chopped up coat where someone tried to cut the mats from his muddy sable & white coat. The collie spirit is truly an amazing thing, isn't it? Gage had no reason to believe that anyone would love & care for him, yet he was all smiles and bows and happy delight when approached with an outstretched hand.

Now Gage will need more than an outstretched hand - he will need a shoulder to lean on, and perhaps strong arms to support him - he will definitely need a kind heart and loving hands to sustain him. You see, Gage is heartworm positive, and has been spending the last two weeks building up his strength and putting on a little weight in order to face the challenge of treatment, which will begin this week.

For the next three months, Gage will have good days, and bad days as his body struggles to rid itself of the parasites invading his heart. He will need a friendly face to reassure him that everything will be all right, and a happy voice to cheer his progress. He will need a firm 'no' when he wants to run, and a companion to scratch behind his ears as he learns to sit quietly in the cool evening air watching the sun set. Gage is 9 years old - an age where he should begin enjoying a peaceful life, not beginning treatment caused by neglect and carelessness.

Gage desperately needs a foster family. He needs a quiet home where he can rest and recover and become whole again. He doesn't do well with male dogs, and may even have issues with females - though he did live with other dogs in his previous home. If you are reading this now, and have a home with room for one collie who really needs you, please, please let us know. When Gage's treatment is over, and the vet tells you that his final test was 'negative' you will rejoice with him, and you will know that you have truly changed the world for a noble and loving collie. A gift given is a gift received...
