Some collies have a remarkable ability to just step into your life as though they have always been there. With shining eyes and a gently wagging tail, they greet you with a gentle hand bump, asking for some petting, then after a quick investigation of the house they flop down next to the couch and sigh 'Ahhh, I'm home!' Gatlyn is one of those dogs - an easy-going, happy, 6 year-old sable & white male who fits in wherever he goes - and who seems very pleased to be there! Gatlyn was a beloved house pet in his previous life, and it is obvious that this sweet boy thinks that life is good, people are great and he is looking forward to sharing the day with you. If you asked him, Gatlyn would insist that he is just big boned, but honestly, our boy is a little...well, he is pretty chunky. At 78lbs, he insists that there is 'just more of him to love' and while that is true, the extra weight isn't healthy and it's going to need to come off! Scheduled feedings and regular excercise will help with this. Fortunantely, Gatlyn walks well on his leash, and seems to enjoy visiting new places. We can just imagine how nice it would be to take him out on the local bike paths or to forest preserves, or even just loops around the neighborhood with this cheerful fellow. Gatlyn rides well in the car, and willingly (albeit a bit clumsily) climbs unassisted into the back seat. He seems to get along well with other dogs, and will probably do fine with cats, as well, although this has not been observed. His foster family does not include small children, but he met a few in the lobby of the vet's office, and was gentle and seemed happy to see them, so he would probably be good in a family with youngsters. Meeting Gatlyn is like unexpectedly running into your best friend from high school. There is an instant recognition, a sense of happiness and a feeling of familiarity. This handsome boy is a collie who fits like a missing puzzle piece - one who will make your family complete! |
