Back in September if you had asked what Riley thought of Rescue, he might have harrumphed 'Not Much!' and rolled his eyes skyward. That's because Riley came to Collie Rescue with sarcoptic mange, and had to spend a lot of time all by himself during treatment for this highly contagious skin condition. He also had erlicia, which is a tick-borne infection. Between the treatment applications, skin scrapings, 'big boy snip', dental work and solitude, we are pretty sure Riley didn't think too highly of us for 'saving' him! Ask him today what he thinks of Rescue, and we'll bet you get a different answer! With the resilience of youth, and with all those health issues resolved, this 2 year old sable & white collie is feeling much better, and while still a bit reserved, we can see the excitement starting to build in his eyes. "Can all this be for me?" he seems to be asking - and yes, Riley, it's all for you Riley is still thin and will need to gain about ten pounds to be where he should be, but he is a sweet boy who walks well on his leash and is a champ at riding in the car. He likes children, and gets along fine with other dogs. It will take a little while for him to relax and to accept the good things that are coming his way, but we know that pretty soon he truly will be living the 'life of Riley' with one lucky family! |
