Adonis

Tricolor Smooth Male

4 years

Adopted!

Adonis just can't figure out why he is still waiting for his forever home, and honestly, we don't know either! He came to us as a beloved family pet who sadly needed to be re homed, and he is so missing that life. How we wish we could help him find it again.

As a smooth-coated collie, Adonis obviously isn't a fluffy, 'Lassie' type, but there is a lot more to a forever friend than a coat, and we know if you got to know him you would fall in love. Adonis is alert, responsive and always ready to go - he would be wonderful for an active family, or someone who enjoys the outdoors - even if it's just long walks around the neighborhood. If you are interested in rally, obedience or agility, Adonis would probably excel, and at 4 years of age is young enough to train, but old enough to concentrate. His previous home included children, and he was very good with them. Adonis has been de-barked, and so has a quiet, husky 'woof!' that won't disturb your neighbors - a plus in any suburban area. He walks well on his leash, and already knows his basic commands. He loves to play fetch, and has a special bunny toy that he will bring right back to you every time you throw it.

Adonis can't be placed in a home with another male dog, but should be fine with a non-dominant female. We'd recommend a home with no cats, as well. He seems to be very afraid of enclosed places, so can't be crated, but is not destructive and would be fine in the house unsupervised. If you needed to contain him, a baby gate to the kitchen, or a big pillow in the laundry room would be good options. A fenced yard is a must for Adonis

If you aren't quite ready to adopt right now, and could offer a foster home to this gorgeous boy, please let us know. We'd really like to see Adonis curled up on a warm bed, enjoying the holidays with a family again. Is this a gift you could give?

Adonis update

Look who is learning to like his crate!

Adonis' new foster mom has been patiently working on teaching Adonis how nice it is to have a room of his own, and based on this happy face, Adonis is beginning to agree that a crate isn't such a bad place after all! Our boy has been in his new foster home for only a few days, and is making so much progress in other ways . He shares his home with an older female who is doing her part by helping Adonis learn some canine good manners, and while he is still persistent, he has learned to listen when she says 'Enough!'.

Adonis has been to obedience class and did very well there. He knows all of his basic commands, and is very intent & focused. This is a dog who really wants a job to do, and his lucky forever family will have quite a devoted companion no matter what they choose to do together!
