Many of you know Jessica's story. Picked up as a 5 month old pup, it was apparent she had been in a traumatic accident in which she was left with breaks in her pelvis as well as a shattered right Femoral Head joint. ( She also has 1/2 a tail) Not that it stopped her mind you! She is very active and wags that 1/2 tail of hers all of the time! After surgery and therapy , she recovered without a hitch. She is past the therapy stage, but still enjoys a doggie massage! Her prognosis....excellent. She walks and runs without any problem and no problems are expected for the future. She thought she had found her forever home, but unfortunately it did not work out, so she is back with us again. I am sure you are wondering why she was returned. Well Jessica is a high energy dog who really needs a back yard. She also is a dominant female who, well, likes to get her way! As most of you know, that doesn't make her a bad dog. It does make it necessary to train her! I have been her foster mom both before and now. I have learned that Jessica is a great little girl! She is super friendly, to both dogs and people. She is head strong, but has always responded well to training. Leash training was her biggest challenge in when I got her back. But what I have found is that she just needs to know what is acceptable leash behavior and what is not. When I got her back, I thought walks would be a nightmare. But frankly she has done really well. I keep her right by my side and don't allow her too much leash. This morning I realized just how far she has come since I got her back a month ago. Before there was constant pulling on the leash. This morning on our 45 minute walk, she was walking next to me and the leash was relaxed!!! Ok, until we saw a rabbit. Then she pulled. But I have found that when she does pull, a quick turn in the other direction until she calms down does the trick. (This was maybe a 3 minute process.) She is proving to be a great running companion as well!! Jessica is a very happy, smart and confident dog. She always seems to have a smile on her face. Obedience is a must with this little girl. Not only for doggie manners. Because she is so smart, she really likes to keep her mind working! Her house manners are excellent . Only plays with toys, never destructive, never any accidents. She loves kids, although may play a bit rough with younger children. She loves a good game of tug, and will drop it on a dime when she is told to drop! Loves to run in the back yard. Frisbee is her favorite game. She will tease you with it at first, and then realizes that she has to bring it back for you to throw it again!! Can you give her the home she deserves? |
